The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee former Union Minister, and MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja, condemned the state government’s decision to increase electricity rates. Kumari Selja said that since coming to power in the state, the BJP has not generated a single new unit of electricity. Every summer, the public has to face extreme heat. While the BJP promised in its manifesto to provide 300 units of free electricity in Delhi, on the other hand, it is increasing rates and cutting the pockets of the people of Haryana. The government should withdraw the increased rates and also abolish the fuel surcharge adjustment (FSA) in the interest of the public.
In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said the state BJP government for giving the public a strong shock by increasing electricity rates. On Tuesday, at midnight, electricity rates were increased by 20 to 40 paise per unit. The electricity rate for the agricultural sector has increased from ₹6.48 per unit to ₹7.35 per unit. The rates for industries have also gone up. The high tension line supply has increased by 30 to 35 paise, and the supply for small factories has increased by 10 to 15 paise per unit. Bulk supply rates have increased by up to 40 paise. This decision will impose an increased financial burden on nearly 81 lakh consumers. Kumari Selja said that the BJP government is extorting money from people through various excuses like FSA and new meter charges. The state government has already increased the fuel surcharge adjustment (FSA) by 47 paise per unit. In the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP promised 300 units of free electricity, so why is it being unfair to the people of Haryana?
Kumari Selja said that the current government has done nothing since coming to power for the third time. The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed, and unemployment and inflation are at their peak. Instead of providing jobs, the government is firing employees under the HKAN scheme, even though the government had earlier promised job security to employees.
Kumari Selja said that while inflation has already broken the back of the common people, increasing electricity rates has only worsened their situation. The government should immediately withdraw the increased rates. The government is engaged in increasing the hardships of the poor people of the state under various pretexts. The promises made to the public have not been fulfilled; on the contrary, the government is working in the opposite direction. The government should immediately withdraw the multiple increases in electricity rates, keeping in mind the public interest and inflation.
